MY BIG BROTHER CAN
By Mary Beatty

MY BROTHER CAN -
Climb the tallest ladder to fight a raging fire
But stoop to comfort a tiny frightened child.
Is seriously injured working off duty for a while
Closes the wound with his needle and thread
Shrugging it off as though nothing to dread.

MY BROTHER CAN -
Repair old autos make them hum just like new.
Rebuild wrecked airplanes with tons of new rivets,
Still has the courage to make those first visits!
Boasts he owns nothing he won’t trade or sell
Bids airplane adieu but his billfold feels swell.

MY BROTHER CAN –
Use special funds earned through much work and planning
Some impoverished family, forever his goal.
Find aid for some sick and forgotten soul
Tell him of Jesus and a brighter hereafter
Share with these new friends food, hope and laughter.

MY BROTHER CAN –
Watch daughter sing, first in English then French
Jesus, There’s Just Something About That Name.
Then putting aside the tough macho game,
And mopping the tears as they stream down his face,
What others might think of him he cares not a trace.

God gave me seven brothers not just this one
Each knows he’s my favorite any time of day
But big brother is unique, the mold cast away!
Have something too difficult that you just can’t do
There’s nothing big brother wouldn’t do for you, too!
